Perseverance Through The Difficulties

Writer: Bingham Student DonationBingham Student Donation

Two words in the English Language trigger so many emotions for teenagers. Feelings of laughter, emotions of stress, countless memories, and a few tears being shed every once in a while.

You probably might be wondering, what two words could make someone feel like they’re on a roller coaster?

Well, these two words are – High School.

4 years. 4 years of assessments. 4 years of uncertainty. And 4 years of challenges.

High School is the one place where students experience the best and worst 4 years of their lives.

We are always faced with evaluations, decisions, and challenges that require critical thinking.

Sometimes all this can feel a bit overwhelming, confusing, and somewhat even nerve-racking.

And over time, all these feelings pile on top of each other and eventually lead to the persuasive thought of giving up and not trying anymore.

We eventually start to think, “it’s just one assignment; it’s okay if I don’t turn it in.” Or we begin to believe, “it’s okay if I don’t study for this test; it’s only 2% of my grade”.

We slowly start to make excuses for slacking off, and before we know it, these excuses will be made for every class that we take.

Now, this is where the word perseverance comes into play. Perseverance means continued determination to do or achieve a goal despite any difficulties.

Now there are going to be so many circumstances and situations along the way. Still, you need to remember that High School is just a tiny portion of your life, and it’s going to pass.

The key is to persevere through the challenges and not give up easily.

And I understand how cliché this sounds, but trust me when you look back on everything and see the final result of all the challenges you overcame, it will be so rewarding to see how strong and determined you are.

And so, I challenge you over these next few weeks to think about the new upcoming school year and think about how you want to approach the challenges you might face.
