BSD has inspired me in so many ways. It has shown me that no dream is “too big” or “out of reach”. When I shared my ideas about BSD and helping support underprivileged students with their studies, my ninth grade classmates were more than willing to help. In just 3 years we’ve been able to work with a number of international and local NGOs by supporting the underprivileged students attending them. Who would’ve thought that a group of high school students would be able to raise over 60,000 ETB and use that money to help hundreds of underprivileged students. And if we can do this, there’s no reason why you can’t make a positive impact in someone’s life. Knowing that we have supported students in our community to excel in their studies is truly fulfilling. It took a lot of time and effort: we’ve even had sleepless nights organizing fundraisers, baking food and counting money, but it was all worth it. I never anticipated that BSD would grow this big or achieve as much as we have. I hope our story inspires you as much as it has us.

So if there’s something you take away from BSD and our story, let it be this: you can always make a positive impact in someone’s life. No matter your age, race or socio-economic status, you can always help someone. With hard work and dedication, you can reach your goal however big it may be. It’s so easy to give up along the way when faced with challenges but if you stay strong and jump over that hurdle, you’ll be one step closer to the finish line and to reaching your dream.
